Fertilizers

Fertilizers are a major product consumed in agriculture in industrial-scale quantities. If properly selected and used, fertilizers can improve soil fertility by 30-40%. Given the growing population on the planet and growing global consumption of food and agricultural products, fertilizers have become perhaps the most rapidly growing branch of cross-border trade, and one of the main commodities in the world after metals and raw materials. In terms of the volume of trade, fertilizers are on a similar level to grain and coffee.

In 2012, global consumption of fertilizers was 179.5 million tons, and in 2016-2017 it reached as much as 185 million tons. Experts forecast that by the year 2020, consumption of fertilizers will increase to as much as 200 million tons. A major part of the demand for fertilizers is accounted for by countries in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. For agricultural producers, it is the main way to substantially increase yields and production efficiency.

Global industry leaders, such as “Uralkaliy” in Russia or “Prayon” in Belgium, are well known to many. “Uralkaliy” alone produces and sells potassium fertilizers worth billions of dollars a year.

Basic fertilizers are divided into three main categories: potassium, nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers. As for «Square Meter», so we are an export distributor for the large agrochemical plant “Almaz Group”, which manufacturers phosphate fertilizers, such as:

- monoammonium phosphate
- potassium monophosphate
- diammonium phosphate
- sulfoammofos

It also manufactures some complex derivatives of phosphates. These so-called “phosphates” rank second in the world in terms of consumption, after nitrogen fertilizers. The volumes traded and consumed by agricoltural industry globally amount to hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

“Almaz Group” plant (distributor of which we are) is based in Lermontov in the south of Russia and it is the city forming enterprise. Their phosphates are of the highest quality, as confirmed by numerous international certificates, including Reach and SDS. It is worth mentioning that “Almaz Group” products are not pelleted fertilizers, which are more common around the world. The company offers water soluble crystalline fertilizers, which are rarer and more technologically advanced. Unlike pellets, which can only be used in soil, water-soluble phosphates have the potential for a much wider range of applications - they can still be integrated into soil, but are also used for drip irrigation of foliage where phosphates dissolved in water are sprayed by aircraft on an industrial scale.
